En Smakebit på Søndag: The Way of Shadows

Da er det tid for En Smakebit på Søndag hos Mari fra Flukten fra Virkeligheten. Jeg hadde litt problemer med å velge smakebit denne gangen, fordi jeg bare nettopp har begynt på boken jeg holder på med, og i motsetning til forrige bok var det ingen sitat som virkelig stakk seg ut.

Denne uken har jeg valgt boken The Way of Shadows av Brent Weeks. Jeg har ikke kommet langt nok til å beskrive boken ordentlig ennå, men her er beskrivelsen bakpå:

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art. And he is the city's most accomplished artist, his talents required from alleyway to courtly boudoir.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned the hard way to judge people quickly - and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

I denne smakebiten har Azoth akkurat fulgt etter Durzo Blint i håp om å få overtalt ham til å bli lærling, noe som nå har blitt hans siste sjanse til å klare seg. Men å følge etter en snikmorder er ikke helt lett:

"There are secrets in this world, kid," a voice said. "Secrets like magical alarms and the identities of the Nine. If you take another step, you'll find one of those secrets. Then two nice bashers with orders to kill intruders will find you."
"Master Blint?" Azoth searched the darkness.
"Next time you follow a man, don't be so furtive. It makes you conspicuous."
Whatever that meant, it didn't sound good. "Master Blint?"
He heard laughter up the tunnel, moving away.
